SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR
The first day of school for students is Monday, August 29, 2022. The first TWO weeks of school will be FOUR-DAY WEEKS. Schools and offices will be closed on Friday, September 2 and Monday, September 5 for Labor Day Recess.
Please print and post a copy of the 2022-2023 school calendar so you are aware of early dismissals and scheduled days off school. We have also created a printable monthly calendar if you prefer a wall calendar.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Elementary: the District provides the necessary classroom supplies.
Middle School: students will need 6 folders (one for each class), as well as some binders and notebooks for the school year. Specific requirements will be shared with students by their teachers on the first day of school.
High School: teachers will inform their students on the first day of school if they have any specific needs for their class.
SCHOOL MEALS
The federally funded free meals program that was offered during the COVID-19 pandemic has EXPIRED. Meals are no longer free for all students.
- MASD will offer meals at the following prices:
- Elementary students will continue to be offered FREE Grab-N-Go breakfast options.
- Breakfast will cost $1.00 for Middle School and High School students.
- Lunch will cost:
- $2.40 for Elementary Students
- $2.55 for Middle School Students ($3.05 for Tiered Lunch)
- $2.65 for High School Students ($3.15 for Tiered Lunch)
- Tiered lunches include specialty items beyond the posted daily menu.
- Please remember to add funds to your students’ cafeteria accounts at SchoolCafe.

- All K-12 Students Will Use 8-digit PIN Numbers at Checkout (including free/reduced students):
- The cafeteria system requires all users to enter a Personal Identification Number (PIN) at checkout. Your student’s PIN is their 8-digit “Student Number” located under “Demographic Info” in PowerSchool as seen here:
- Free/Reduced Meals:
- Families who do not qualify for free/reduced meals will be responsible for paying for their student(s)’ meals.
- If your household has already qualified through Direct Certification, you should have received an email from [email protected] with the subject line “PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION – Student Eligibility Notification.” Please check your spam folder for this email. If you have received this notification you do not need to complete an application.
- If you did not receive the email mentioned above, and you believe your household is eligible for free/reduced meals, please read this information which provides application instructions. You may submit an application here.
- Information from Free/Reduced Meals Applications may be used to determine eligibility for your student to receive reductions in student activities expenses and/or school related fees. The District also relies on this data for other programs that benefit our students.
REMINDER OF BACK-TO-SCHOOL EVENTS
We have several events to help your children transition to their new teachers and classrooms. Please take advantage of these opportunities to visit your schools and help your children become comfortable with their new environments.
Medication Drop-off is an opportunity to bring your child’s medication and paperwork to their school prior to the start of school so they can receive their medication on the first day of school. View details, including what to bring, at Medication Drop-off.

HANDBOOKS
Parents and students are responsible for following all the guidelines included in the Student Code of Conduct & District Handbook as well as the school-specific Student Handbooks. All handbooks, as well as a quick reference guides for Dress Code Regulations, can be found at FOR PARENTS.
SCHOOL IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
School districts are legally required to enforce the following immunization deadlines:
MONDAY, AUGUST 29, 2022
7th Grade Students: deadline to submit proof of Tdap and Meningitis is the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. Seventh graders without these immunizations on file will not be permitted to attend classes on the first day of school.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2022
Last day to submit proof of any immunizations which still need to be received by the District. SENIORS need to submit proof of a 2nd dose of Meningitis.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2022:
Students with incomplete immunizations on file will not be permitted to attend school beginning September 7th.

STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE
Middletown Area School District incurs the cost of accident insurance to assist in covering student injuries that occur during District-authorized events such as athletics, field trips and gym classes.
In addition, the District offers families the option of purchasing additional accident, life and dental coverage for students. See our Student Insurance page for details and consider taking advantage of these highly discounted plans:
- School-day coverage only: $30 per year per student
- 24-hour coverage: $113 per year per student
- Dental Coverage: $20 per year per student
CHIP HEALTH INSURANCE
Pennsylvania’s Children’s Health Insurance Program now covers all uninsured kids and teens (up to age 19). Coverage includes doctor visits, dental care, eye care, prescriptions, immunizations, mental health and much more. For many families, CHIP is free, with no copays or monthly premiums. Families with higher incomes may qualify for low-cost or at-cost CHIP, which still includes the same comprehensive benefits. Families whose incomes fall below CHIP guidelines may be enrolled in Medical Assistance.
